Schallaburg Castle is the starting point for walks and hikes. Three circular hiking trails explore the Mostviertel region in the immediate vicinity of Schallaburg Castle. The options range from a leisurely 30-minute walk to a one-and-a-half-hour tour.
Circular walking trail 1
Duration: approx. 30 minutesThe first circular trail starts and ends at Schallaburg Castle. Begin at the entrance to the Renaissance castle and stroll across the car park up into the upper forest. Depending on the season and time of day, there are interesting insects and plants to discover here. After a short walk across the meadow with a magnificent view of the castle and Renaissance garden, the trail leads through the Schallaburg Forest towards Anzendorf. Passing the cider trees, with Schallaburg Castle above you, walk towards Gasthof Jäger. Take the L5342 country road and return to Schallaburg Castle on the pavement.
This route is moderately difficult, requires good footwear and is not suitable for pushchairs.
Circular walking trail 2
Duration: approx. 40 minutesThe second circular trail also starts at the car park or at the entrance to Schallaburg Castle. Explore the village of Schallaburg and stroll back to Schallaburg Castle along meadows and fields.
This route is easy and suitable for pushchairs.
Circular walking trail 3
Duration: approx. 1.5 hoursThe third circular trail starts at the Schallaburger Wiese viewpoint. At the beginning, follow the dirt roads along green areas and fields. The trail leads you along well-maintained forest paths to the Steinparz pilgrimage church. During this walk, you will pass the Kraus and Temper inns. Forest trails and dirt roads will take you back to Schallaburg Castle.
This route is moderately difficult, requires good footwear and is not suitable for pushchairs.
On foot to Schallaburg Castle
Marked hiking trails lead you to Schallaburg Castle on foot from both Melk and Loosdorf. You can hike from the railway stations to Schallaburg Castle.
