Discover Schallaburg Castle in a relaxed way by boat and combine your Danube boat trip with a cultural excursion.🚢
In the Heart of Lower Austria, not far from the World Heritage Site at Wachau, visitors will find the impressive Schallaburg, a landmark that has stood the test of time for around 1000 years. Its origins date back to the 11th century, and the conversion into a magnificent Renaissance castle in the 16th century had a lasting impact. Generations of noble families have left an architectural legacy here that still fascinates today.
The Schallaburg is a unique combination of architecture from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The oldest part of the complex is a stonework structure around 1000 years old that was once used to protect the castle and the surrounding villages. Its sheer height in front of the castle still impresses today. The Romanesque chapel and the Gothic crypt complete the ensemble and make the Schallaburg a place where visitors can see and experience history.
There is many a story in history.
The Schallaburg is one of the most exciting exhibition venues in Austria. Here, the castle’s past is brought to life in stories that make it tangible. Every exhibition invites you to immerse yourself in history and to forge a link between the past and the present. History thus becomes an experience packed full of stories. And the Schallaburg becomes a place that whisks you away into another world.
