Schallaburg is looking for your 80s!
Schallaburg invites public participation in the 1980s exhibition 2026 – personal objects and stories wanted.
Schallaburg is preparing the exhibition “The 80s – Beyond Borders” for 2026 and invites the public to take an active part in shaping it. We are looking for personal experiences and memorabilia that reflect the spirit of this multifaceted decade.
Whether it’s a small everyday item, a protest sign, or something deeply personal like a love letter – we are searching for things that tell the story of your life in the 80s: childhood and youth, family life, holidays, leisure or sports.
What memory from the 1980s have you kept?
We don’t just want to tell what happened back then – we want to convey what the 80s felt like. The stories and keepsakes of the people who lived through this decade are our true treasures.
What we’re looking for:
To give you an idea of what we mean, here are some inspiring examples:
• Walkmans, cassette tapes, mixtapes
• Posters, diaries, BRAVO magazines, club cards, concert tickets
• Fan merchandise – including handmade items – scrapbooks, protest banners, everyday objects
• Household items, styling accessories, perm curlers, workout outfits, roller skates, children’s things, confirmation gifts
• …and anything else that means “the 80s” to you!
Whether quirky, moving, or rebellious – every object tells a story.
Some of the submitted items will be featured in the 2026 exhibition, along with the name of the lender (or anonymously, if preferred).
Typical 80s!
