Celebrating the closing of the exhibition Dreaming … Dreams

To mark the closing of the exhibition Dreaming … Dreams, Schallaburg invites you to a truly special experience: a Dream Salon – a live performance combining art and science.
A dream shared by an audience member will be explored in conversation – while artist Julia Lockheart paints the dream live onto pages from Sigmund Freud’s The Interpretation of Dreams.

The event will be held in English and is open to everyone interested in dreaming, psychology, and art.
Recommended age: 14 and above.

Admission to the performance is free (excluding admission to Schallaburg Castle).
Registration is required at buchung@schallaburg.at.

About the event

In this multisensory performance, a recently dreamt dream from an attendee will be discussed and at the same time transformed into art.
The discussion will be led by Prof. Mark Blagrove (Swansea University), using the group dream discussion method devised by psychoanalyst Montague Ullman. The method aims to link the dream to the dreamer’s recent emotional experiences and concerns.

Meanwhile, Prof. Julia Lockheart (Swansea College of Art, University of Wales Trinity Saint David) will paint the dream live onto original pages from Freud’s The Interpretation of Dreams.
Her works, inspired by Dadaism and Surrealism, combine text fragments and painting into poetic, visually striking pieces. Many participants describe real ‘aha’ moments when the connections between dream and waking life are revealed.

We thank Wordsworth Classics for granting permission to use pages from the first English translation of Freud’s book in the creation of these artworks.
